The Geneva Terrace Eichlers of Visitacion Valley
In the early 1960s, Joseph Eichler, in partnership with architect Claude Oakland, initiated a housing project in the Visitacion Valley neighborhood of San Francisco. This venture resulted in the Geneva Terrace townhouses and Geneva Towers high-rise. The townhouses, a departure from Eichler's usual modernist style, are two-story, 4-bedroom residences with a simple, red-brick facade.
The Geneva Towers, an 18-story high-rise at Garrison Avenue and Schwerin Street, originally provided affordable rentals for working professionals before transitioning to subsidized housing. While the towers are no longer standing, the Geneva Terrace townhomes continue to offer budget-friendly housing options in San Francisco, valued between $400k to $550k, representing Eichler's dedication to affordable housing in the city.
